Tariffs Take a Toll: Game Pieces and Accessories No Longer Available to U.S. Customers

It is with a heavy heart that I announce some significant changes coming to Out of Play, our online shop specializing in board and card game accessories. After much deliberation and uncertainty, I have concluded that it is no longer viable for us to continue importing goods from China to serve our U.S. customers.

The increased tariffs that are going into effect in May have made it simply too costly for us to maintain our current business model. While we have always bought in small quantities from China, the new tariff rates have made it more economical for us to shift our operations to focus on international fulfillment rather than serving the U.S. market.

This means that in the coming weeks, you will see a restructuring of our product collections, and anything currently vendored by Out of Play will eventually be available only to our international customers. We will continue to partner with vendors like Cryptozoic Entertainment, Floodgate Games, and BaronOfDice, but our own in-house inventory will be international-only.

I know this will be disappointing news for many of our U.S. customers, and I have agonized over this decision for some time. However, the harsh realities of the current trade landscape have left me with no other choice. Tariffs are effectively closing the doors of small businesses and small board game publishers across the industry, and I'm sure many of you have already seen the impact.

Please know that I remain committed to serving the board game community to the best of my ability. We will continue to seek out alternative suppliers, both domestic and international, in the hopes of one day being able to resume serving our U.S. customers. In the meantime, I appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate this complex and ever-changing import landscape.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out. We value each and every one of our customers, and we will do our best to ensure a smooth transition during this difficult time.

Vendor Partnerships

While we will no longer be able to offer our own in-house inventory to U.S. customers, we remain committed to our partnerships with vendors like Cryptozoic Entertainment, Floodgate Games, and BaronOfDice. These companies will continue to be available to our U.S. customers, though we may see some price increases as they too grapple with the impact of tariffs.

Looking to the Future

As we navigate this challenging period, we remain dedicated to serving the board game community to the best of our ability. We will continue to explore alternative sourcing options, both domestically and internationally, in the hopes of one day being able to resume serving our U.S. customers.

In the meantime, we appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to adapt to these new realities. We value each and every one of our customers, and we will do our best to ensure a smooth transition during this difficult time.
