Fishing: Oops All Dice - A Dice-Centric Tabletop Adventure

Welcome to the world of "Fishing: Oops All Dice," a delightfully chaotic tabletop game that puts the fate of your fishing expedition entirely in the hands of the almighty dice. As the owner of Out of Play, a shop dedicated to bringing the best gaming experiences to our customers, I'm thrilled to share the rules of this one-of-a-kind game with you.

The idea for "Fishing: Oops All Dice" was born out of a simple realization: sometimes, the best games are the ones that embrace the unpredictable nature of chance. In a world where strategy and skill often reign supreme, we wanted to create a game that celebrates the pure, unadulterated joy of rolling the dice and seeing where the fickle winds of fate take us.

At its core, "Fishing: Oops All Dice" requires only one component: dice. Lots and lots of dice. Players will need a variety of dice, from the classic six-sided to the more exotic twenty-sided, to embark on their fishing adventures. The gameplay is refreshingly straightforward, with players taking turns rolling their dice and using the results to catch fish.

The basic rules are simple:

Objective:

Catch the highest-scoring fish using your rod dice and clever pip-counting! Upgrade your rods to reel in more and bigger fish. At the end, score based on fish quality and placement. The angler with the most points wins!

Game Components:

Fish Dice (Total: 44)

11 Red d6

11 Blue d6

11 Green d6

11 Yellow d6

Rod Dice (20 total)

4 × d4

4 × d6

4 × d8

4 × d10

4 × d12

4 × d20

Setup:

Center Pond: Remove one die of each color. Roll 40 fish dice (d6s) into the center. Make sure every die is lying flat (no cocked or leaning dice).

Each player starts with:

1 d4 rod (grabbing limit die)

1 d6 rod (pip limit die)

How to Play:

1. Fish Point Placement

At the start of the game:

Roll the dice you removed from the fish dice, 1 red, 1 blue, 1 green, and 1 yellow d6.

Order them highest to lowest.

The top 3 are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for scoring purposes:

1st place (highest die): 3 points

2nd place: 2 points

3rd place: 1 point

The lowest die is removed—its color is worth 0 points.

If double numbers the order matters.

Set aside the 3 dice and place them on 3, 2, and 1 as a reminder of placement and scoring.

2. Fishing Turns

Each round, all players fish in turn.

On your turn:

Roll your rod dice:

d4 = Max number of dice you can take this turn.

d6 (or higher) = The maximum total pips (sum of die faces) you may collect this turn.

Pick your fish dice from the center (obeying both limits above):

You may only take dice of a single color.

You may combine up to your limit only if they are the same color.

Color Rules:

Red and Green fish = odd total pips only

Blue and Yellow fish = even total pips only

If you roll an even number but take red or green fish your total must be less then the die roll. Ie. rolled a 6 the total red or green must be 1,3, or 5.

Keep your chosen fish dice together as one "caught fish." You may catch multiple over time, but each catch is made on a separate turn.

Rod Upgrades:

As you catch fish, you track total pip value of your caught fish (across turns).

When you reach certain thresholds, you may upgrade your pip limit die:

Upgrade To Total Pips Needed

d8 8 pips

d10 18 pips

d12 30 pips

d20 50 pips

You may only upgrade one level at a time, and only after your turn ends.

Your grab limit die (d4) never changes.

End of the Game:

The game ends when all fish dice are taken or no one can take anymore fish.

Scoring:

Each fish die in your collection is scored individually.

Match its color with the placement from the beginning:

1st place color: 3 points per die

2nd place color: 2 points per die

3rd place color: 1 point per die

Removed color: 0 points

Example: If Green was 1st place, and you caught a 3-die green fish, it's worth 9 points (3×3).

Winning:

The player with the most points at the end of the game is the Master Angler!

(Or just… the luckiest dice goblin.)

Whether you're a seasoned tabletop gamer or a newcomer to the world of dice-based adventures, "Fishing: Oops All Dice" promises to provide hours of engaging, unpredictable fun. So gather your dice, sharpen your fishing skills, and get ready to embark on a truly unique gaming experience. Who knows, you might just reel in the catch of a lifetime!
